Shenzhen, China – 11 September 2024 – Informa Markets is pleased to announce that the Asia Photonics Expo (APE) 2025 will return to Singapore, taking place at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre from 26 to 28 February 2025. The launch event for APE 2025, the Global Photonics Industry Development and Application Forum, was held in person on the opening day of the 25th China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE). The event attracted 100 international attendees where experts from Asia, North America, and Europe discussed the current market status and development opportunities across various sectors worldwide.
Photonics technology is diverse and transformative, with global regions making strides across various application fields and the potential to revolutionise industries. Dr. Kent Rochford, CEO of SPIE, remarked, “Photonics is indispensable, ubiquitous and a critical enabling technology that underpins much of what we do. Our 2024 Global Industry Report shows continued strength in the core photonics component market, with a 7.3% annualised growth rate over the 10-year period we tracked.”
In a similar vein, Jacques Cochard, CEO & Founder of TEMATYS, highlighted a parallel trend in Europe: “The European photonics industry experienced a 6.5% annual growth rate between 2019 and 2022, significantly outpacing the European GDP growth. While Europe exports a quarter of its photonics output, over half of its production is exported outside Europe, reflecting its strong global competitiveness.”
The role of photonics technology extends beyond traditional industries to emerging areas such as 3D sensing, autonomous vehicles, and optical interconnects, driving rapid changes in how we live, work, and communicate. Supported by the strong growth in the Asia market and coupled with a well-connected eco-system, the advancements in specifics sectors such as optical communications, optical imaging, and laser processing are expected to progress tremendously.
George Choo, President of the Association of Telecommunications & Technology Industry in Singapore, emphasized Singapore’s pivotal role in this sector, “Singapore’s advancements in optoelectronics andtelecommunications are pivotal in shaping the future of high-speed data transmission. Through strategic initiatives such as the Smart Nation Initiative and the Digital Connectivity Blueprint, Singapore is not only driving its digital transformation but also establishing itself as a global leader in cutting-edge communication technologies.”
Globally, advancements in photonics technology are driving rapid innovation, enhancing productivity, and improving quality of life. Suroj Sangsnit, President of the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), commented: “As Thailand’s electric vehicle (EV) industry rapidly expands, photonics technologies will play an increasingly crucial role in enabling advanced sensing, high-speed connectivity, and smart infrastructure integration. The convergence of EVs, autonomous systems, and smart city initiatives presents tremendous opportunities for photonics to enhance vehicle performance, charging networks, and overall urban mobility”.
Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Tan Chee Fai of the Machinery & Engineering Industries Federation (MEIF) added, “Photonics technology is driving significant advancements in Malaysia’s semiconductor industry, enhancing precision, efficiency, and innovation throughout the value chain. These advancements are accelerating automation and sustainability, positioning Malaysia as a global semiconductor hub. With cutting-edge photonics solutions, Malaysia’s semiconductor industry is well-positioned to meet rising global demand and lead ASEAN’s high-tech manufacturing sector into a new era of growth and innovation.”
Sukumar Verma, Managing Director of Informa Markets, Singapore, concluded, “Asia Photonics Expo is set to become the premier platform for business connections in the region and a transformative force in the photonics application market supported by LUX Photonics Consortium and leading associations. APE 2025 will showcase innovative product solutions, host thought leadership conferences, offer curated site tours, and facilitate extensive networking and business matching opportunities. We look forward to welcoming you to APE 2025.”
The Asia Photonics Expo will take place in Singapore at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre from 26 to 28 February 2025. The tradeshow is free and open to trade professionals. Registration is now open on the APE website, you can register here.
